Flight data acquisition, control and recording systems

In 1997 year in “Aviaavtomatika” named after V. Tarasov” JSC Design Bureau in association with GosNIIAS first time in Russia was created integrated flight data recording system “KARAT-B” on basis of solid-state protected recorder, functioning as airborne crash recorder and airborne automated control system.

Today development and manufacture of solid-state airborne flight data acquisition, control and recording systems (“black boxes”) – one of the enterprise priority directions of activity.

Recording systems for military aviation

High-technology flight data recording systems and recorders for military aviation are developed and manufactured: KARAT-B-25, KARAT-B-29K, KARAT-B-29K-01, KARAT-B-29K-02, KARAT-B-220, ZBN-T. Systems, conforming to the international standards, are installed on aircraft of Mikoyan, Sukhoi, Yakovlev, Yliushin companies. A range of systems is batch manufactured. Protected airborne recorder ZBN-K is installed on sea craft manufactured by “Almaz” Design Bureau.

Reliability, recorder data protection degree, corresponding to contemporary world standard, weight-and dimensions characteristics, and integrating functions of parametric and voice data in one device – are main requirements, set for such systems. Distinctive feature of all developed systems is possibility for any board adaptation, including aircraft of new generation.

Recording systems for civil aviation

Today one of the enterprise priority task became competitive production manufacture for Russian civil aviation market. Quality confirmation of recorders, developed at “Aviaavtomatika” named after V. Tarasov” JSC is certification passing in ACC GosNII GA and AR IAK and receiving of airworthiness certificate of component unit with manufacture authorization.

ZBN-GA system for civil aviation with voice recorder is installed on Tu-214, Tu-334 and Tu-204 airplanes as parametric and voice data recording and its storing in case of air crash device. The system is developed in combination with GosNIIAS.

Compact flight data recorders

New development of “Aviaavtomatika” named after V. Tarasov” JSC – is compact flight data acquisition and recording system MBR – provides reception, processing of flight data incoming via digital and analog communication lines from airborne systems and complexes, airborne intercom device and open microphones, its recording on solid-state recorder and storage in case of air crash.

MBR system is already presented on L-410, Yak-40, Rysachok airplanes and Mi-2M, Ka-32M, Mi-171A2 helicopters. Any batch manufactured ground processing system (for example, WinArm32, TOPAZ-M, MAGNIT), developed on basis of stationary and portable IBM-compatible computer can be applied as ground flight data reception and processing system.

New compact protected airborne recorder CVDR with minimal weight and dimensional characteristics, performing parametric, voice and video data recording is developed on basis of innovation technologies. The recorder is created on basis of solid-state protected memory module, corresponding to project of international standard. CVDR, installed on Ka-62 helicopter, complies with the best foreign analogs by its characteristics and functional capabilities.

In-house developed protected memory modules PMM (ZMP for its Russian initials), corresponding to the requirements of international standards, project of standard are an integral part of all flight data recorders, developed at the enterprise.

Composite nanostructured material

Special attention is paid to constant improving of modules specifications, it must store information in case of air crash after all. Development of perspective heat-shielding compounds with improved temperature-time characteristics is in progress for the purpose of PMM heat shielding perfection within the context of research work on basis of scientific-research laboratory of material study and nanotechnologies. Modules reliable resistance to extreme exposure was more than once confirmed not only on tests, but, unfortunately, in real conditions of operation.

Heat-absorbing heat-shielding compounds (HSC) are intended for application as irreversible heat-shielding of crucial mechanisms and devices under long-term exposure to high temperature.

“Aviaavtomatika” named after V. Tarasov” JSC in association with the leading scientific-research institutes of the Russian Federation, using accumulated experience, performs heat-shielding complex creation works on basis of quartz nanofibers, assembled to volume matrix, and multi-circuit heat-shielding on basis of chemical refrigerator. Cooling is provided with the help of HSC, without delivered heat. Under exposure of lower temperatures, heat-accumulating material functions as subject heating, due to previously accumulated energy.

Flight accident investigation bench

Flight accidents investigation was always one of the actual tasks. In 2005 year “Aviaavtomatika” named after V. Tarasov” JSC Design Bureau was equipped with the first in Russia uniform flight data processing bench of airborne solid-state crash recorders SRLP-U for flight accident investigation. The bench is intended for flight data processing and recovery from partially or fully damaged solid-state recorder. SRLP-U bench operating efficiency was estimated on flight accidents of Yak-130 (2009 and 2010 years) and MiG-29KUB (2011 year) investigation. The data was completely readout and preliminarily decoded within 24 hours with the help of hardware-and-software complex.

Diagnostics and prognostics system

Since 2013 year “Aviaavtomatika” named after V. Tarasov” JSC is determined by concern “Radio-Electronic Technologies” as the head of basic diagnostics and prognostics technology of aerial vehicles technical state.

At present, works on providing Mi-171A2 helicopters with diagnostics and prognostics systems are conducted, and providing a wide range of aircraft and helicopters with such systems is planned in the context of perspective work “Kamerton”.
